Ion range and straggling in various gases at 1 Torr
Ion range and lateral straggling were calculated using the
SRIM code. Calculations were performed for
Al, Si, C, and W ions into He, Ar and N2. The energy range in each case is
10 eV through 10 keV.
The gas pressure in each case is 1 Torr. To convert to other pressures, simply divide the
range and straggling by the pressure in Torr:
R(p) = R(1 Torr)/p
e.g., the range at 1 mTorr is 1000x the range at 1 Torr.
A sample plot of trajectories is shown here using 1000 test ions
(Al into He at 1 Torr).
