Hydrodynamics of Fast-Ignition Implosions
The Fast Ignition approach to inertial fusion energy uses two drivers
- one to compress the target, and a second to ignite it. This
allows, in principle, higher gain and relaxation of target
specifications, so is exciting world-wide interest. The ignition
step involves physics that is not well understood and is strongly
affected by details of the collapse hydrodynamics. We will discuss
current research efforts in this area.
